Contentment. Energy. Positivity

Therapist for Depression in Person and Online

You feel down. You feel sad. You feel empty. You feel like the future doesn’t hold anything of value.

Depression changes the way you think, making life seem less fulfilling. It creates a cycle where negative thoughts and low mood touch everything you do and enjoy.

  • Depression removes our ability to feel joy. It makes it hard to understand relationships, find happiness from them, and experience the positive feelings and energy that friendships and relationships typically provide.

  • Depression alters the way we think to make every activity we undertake seem joyless, pointless, and negative. It saps our energy and makes it far more difficult to take on hobbies, reach goals, or experience fulfillment that would otherwise bring more into one’s life.

My name is Jon Abelack. I am a therapist in New Canaan, licensed in both CT and NY, and I work with individuals who…

  • Feel a low mood, irritable, and unable to “see the point”

  • Seem unable to experience joy or happiness.

  • Experience with negative self-talk and low self-worth.

  • Struggle with sleep, either too much or too little.

  • Have lost interest in otherwise pleasurable activities.

  • Ponder whether life is worth living.

  • Can’t seem to manage relationships, friendships, or work.

  • Feel stuck in a self-sustaining cycle of sadness.

Depression, quite literally, changes the way we think. It changes our reality. It makes it so that we are unable to even imagine feelings of happiness and positivity that we once experienced. We may even forget what those felt like.
But relief is possible. Psychotherapy has the potential to reduce feelings of depression and alter how your mind operates.

How it works

My Approach to Therapy

Depression has the ability to cause people to forget what life was like before depression. It alters the way you think, which alters your reality – making things seem pointless, and telling you that relief is not possible.

Don’t listen to it.

It is my role as your therapist to identify, name, and help you overcome the issues that are causing your depression. We are also able, together, to form actionable strategies that can help you find ongoing relief, and give you ideas for what you can do if you find that your depression is starting to “come back.”

We’ll work together to alter the way you think, help you reframe your thoughts so that you can start to see hope and enjoy activities again. We’ll also rebuild the connections in your mind that allow positive thinking to occur, and help you experience feelings of joy again.

We can talk about your past and the experiences that led to your depression, or we can focus on the future, and emphasize techniques that help you keep it away. Therapy is designed to revolve around you and what is best for your mental health.

Working together, we can address depression in the way that feels most effective for you and then continue to adjust what is needed to help you create a fulfilling, joy-filled life.

I am licensed in both Connecticut and New York for those interested in remote therapy, and I have a physical location in New Canaan, CT, with patients in Darien, Stamford, Wilton, and other local areas.

If you’re ready for help, reach out today to get started. Depression is treatable, and together, we can start the process of providing you with some much needed relief.
